“I am a businessperson from New England. I have a preference for independence and freedom of humanity. In this regard I champion for universal freedom in the various activities on the social political and economic front. My opinion on the Declaration of Independence document is shaped by the philosophies embodied in the document. I should appreciate that the Declaration of Independence document is very critical in the history of the United States. It formed the basis on which the American Constitution was advanced (Pierce 2005).
The philosophies advanced in the Declaration of Independence are in agreement with my character. This document called for political independence from the Great Britain. I concur with what is presented in the document regarding the equality of humanity. The document also champions for the rights of individuals which should be protected at all costs. In the indictment part the Declaration of Independence points out the various abuses that King George III committed against the American people (Pierce 2005). I am quite interested in the aspects on the interference of the King on matters of governance free trade and raising taxes. I am interested in these aspects because they touch on my ideals.
The other documents that are acknowledged in the American history include the Articles of Association and the Constitution. These two documents have similarities and differences. Nonetheless they were meant to serve the same function as they were laws of the United States. The Articles of Association were ratified in 1781 whereas the Constitution replaced the Articles of Association in the year 1788. Although the two documents might have meant to serve the same purpose they were very distinct in how they were drafted (Brennan 2011).
The similarity between these documents can be seen in the sense that they were all established by Americans. Both the Articles of Association and the Constitution established the United States government. In addition the two documents formed the laws of the United States. It can also be noted that both documents referred to the nation as the United States of America. The two documents had respect for legal acts established by other states and promoted equal treatment among the citizens. The Articles of Association established departments which were later turned into the cabinet by the Constitution. The two documents had regulations for Indian affairs (Brennan 2011). These are some of the similarities that could be drawn from the Articles of association and the Constitution.
Apart from the similarities the two documents had differences. Notably a difference could be seen in the aspect of taxes. According to the Articles of Association Congress was not given powers to impose taxes in the States. However in the Constitution the Congress had the power to impose taxes on individuals. The Articles of Association established a weak central government where states enjoyed considerable power. The Constitution established a strong central government though the states were left with some powers (Brennan 2011). The Articles of Association did not have any regulation of trade. In fact there was no control of trading activities between the various states. On the other hand the Constitution established regulation of trade between states. Indeed the interstate trade was under the control of the Congress (Kelly 1991). In addition the Articles of Association established a unicameral legislature whereas the Constitution established a bicameral legislature. Under the Articles of Association disputes arising between states were to be resolved by the Congress. On the other hand the Constitution left such disputes to be resolved by the Supreme Court (Dahl 2003). These are some of the notable differences between the Articles of Association and the Constitution.
Having compared the two historical documents I agree that the establishment of the Constitution will prove useful to me and the Americans at large. In the first place the Constitution has come with stable and strong government structures that will enhance the rights and freedoms of the American people (Dahl 2003). The Articles of Association established a very powerful state government with a weak national government. This could lead to political social and economic instability in the country. I think that stability is critical to the success of the business environment.
In regard to the Constitution Congress has the power to impose taxes on citizens. In this case the taxes will be harmonized across the country. Therefore I support this view hoping that it will be good for entrepreneurs. However I find the notion of controlling interstate trade not appealing to the business community. Nonetheless it will depend on how far will the Congress impose its control on interstate trade. The constitution came with some positive elements and negative elements too. However when the two sides are compared the positives outweigh the negatives. Therefore after careful analysis I will opt to support the adoption of the Constitution in the hope that it will enable me to achieve my goals in life. The Constition strives to establish the United States as a great nation where all individuals are equal and have the opportunity to exploit their potential. Therefore I will root for the adoption of the Constitution.”
