I am a business person from New England. I have a preference for independence and freedom of humanity. In this regard I champion for universal freedom in the various activities on the social political and economic front. My opinion on the Declaration of Independence document is shaped by the philosophies embodied in the document. I should appreciate that the Declaration of Independence document is very critical in the history of the United States. It formed the basis on which the American Constitution was developed (Pierce 2005).
The philosophies advanced in the Declaration of Independence are in agreement with my character. When I look at this document In see that it calls for political independence from the Great Britain. I concur with what is presented in the document regarding the equality of humanity. I can also note that the document champions for the rights of individuals which should be protected at all costs. When I look at the indictment part the Declaration of Independence shows the various abuses that King George III committed against us (Pierce 2005). I am quite interested in the aspects on the interference of the King on matters of governance free trade and raising taxes. I am interested in these aspects because they relate to on my ideals.
I can acknowledge that the other documents that are acknowledged in the American history include The Articles of Association and the Constitution. In my opinion these two documents have similarities and differences. Nonetheless I must say that they were meant to serve the same function because they were laws of the United States. When I look at these documents I can note that the Articles of Association were ratified in 1781 whereas the Constitution replaced the Articles of Association in the year 1788 (Brennan 2011).
In my opinion the similarity between these documents can be seen in the sense that they were all established by Americans. I have to acknowledge that the Articles of Association and the Constitution established the United States government. In addition I should note that the two documents were meant to form the laws of the United States. I have to mention that the documents refer to the nation as the United States of America. The two documents respected the legal acts established by other states and promoted equal treatment among the citizens. I have also observed that the Articles of Association established departments which were later turned into the cabinet by the Constitution (Brennan 2011).
Apart from the similarities I can note some differences between the two documents. I note a difference in the aspect of taxes. I have noticed that in the Articles of Association Congress was not given powers to impose taxes in the states. However when I read the Constitution the Congress has the power to impose taxes on individuals. I note that the Articles of Association established a weak central government where states enjoyed considerable power. In contrast the Constitution has established a strong central government though the states were left with some powers (Brennan 2011). When I look at the Articles of Association it did not have any regulation of trade and there was no control of trading activities between the various states. On the other hand I find a clause in the Constitution that is meant to regulate trade between states (Kelly 1991). In addition I note another difference where the Articles of Association established a unicameral legislature whereas the Constitution is going to establish a bicameral legislature. From my understanding under the Articles of Association disputes arising between states were to be resolved by the Congress. On the other hand I find that the Constitution has left such disputes to be resolved by the Supreme Court (Dahl 2003).
Having compared the two historical documents I agree that the establishment of the Constitution will be useful to me and the Americans. In the first place the Constitution has provided stable and strong government structures that will enhance our rights and freedoms as the American people (Dahl 2003). In my view the Articles of Association established a very powerful state government with a weak national government. I think that this could lead to political social and economic instability in the country. I must admit that stability is critical to the success of the business environment.
When I look at the Constitution Congress has the power to impose taxes on citizens. I hope that this will enable taxes to be harmonized across the country. Therefore I support this view hoping that it will be good for entrepreneurs. However I find the notion of controlling interstate trade not appealing to the business community. Nonetheless I will wait to see how far the Congress will impose its control on interstate trade. I have to admit that the constitution came with some positive elements and negative elements too. However I can note that when the two sides are compared the positives outweigh the negatives. Therefore after careful analysis I will support the adoption of the Constitution in the hope that it will help achieve my goals in life. The Constitution strives to establish the United States as a great nation where all individuals including me are equal and have the opportunity to exploit their potential. Therefore I will accept the adoption of the Constitution.”
